Jadon Sancho’s two first half goals were just enough to give the Black and Yellow all three points at home with a 2-1 win over Mainz 05 Saturday on MatchDay 29.
Mainz gave everything Dortmund could handle in the second half. Despite Roman Bürki stopping nine shots, the most saves that he has had in Bundesliga play all season, Robin Quaison broke through to bring Mainz within one goal with less than 10 minutes left. Bürki’s heroics in net meant the Yellow Wall was singing praise unto him as he kept all three points in Dortmund.
That gives Dortmund a two-point lead over Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga, but the Bavarians will play in Düsseldorf tomorrow. That may put Bayern Munich back on top once the 29th Spieltag comes to an end.
