Bundesliga in the USA: Match Day 12 TV Ratings

The television ratings in the United States have been a hot topic of discussion, particularly since the league moved to major broadcaster Fox this season. Thanks to the good folks at Sports TV Ratings, we are able to pull the weekend viewership numbers for the Bundesliga and share them with you.

These numbers capture the estimated television viewership only and do not account for any viewers of Fox Soccer 2 Go, the network’s online service which makes all Bundesliga matches available to subscribers both live and via archives. Our table also covers only the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday matches, leaving out any mid-week replays of matches, such as the Tuesday replay of the Bayer Leverkusen – 1. FC Köln match drew another 28,000 viewers on Fox Deportes.

Fox Sports 1 reaches approximately 85 million US households, Fox Sports 2 just over 45 million, and Fox Deportes (Spanish-language) nearly 22 million.

As has been the case all season, Bayer Leverkusen continues to draw strong viewership on Fox Deportes, presumably thanks to the presence of Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez on the squad.

When all weekend broadcast numbers are totalled, however, the Revierderby between Borussia Dortmund and Schalke 04 was the weekend’s biggest Bundesliga draw.

Overall, match day 12 viewership of live matches outpaced that of match day 11, though no single broadcast was able to outdraw the 166,000 who watched a lunch-time replay of VfL Wolfsburg -Bayer Leverkusen on Fox Deportes from that weekend.
