Transition at VfL Wolfsburg continues, as the Wolves have signed Borussia Dortmund attacker Ivan Perisic, while loaning out midfielder Park Jung-Bin to Greuther Furth. Dortmund meanwhile secured the future of two key players by extending the contracts of Neven Subotic and Sven Bender. Hoffenheim have added versatile Peruvian international Luis Advincula while Hannover have brought in Arsenal’s Johan Djourou on a loan agreement. Meanwhile, Stuttgart tied down an important player by extending the contract of Christian Gentner.
Perisic to Wolfsburg
The addition of Klaus Allofs as the new Sporting Director at Wolfsburg has heralded several changes in the club, the latest of which is the signing of Croatian international Ivan Perisic from BvB. The 23 year-old native of Split has been signed by the Wolves through June 30, 2017. Perisic had made 20 appearances in all competitions for Dortmund during the Hinrunde, scoring three goals and adding an assist.
We’re delighted to have been able to bring Ivan Perisic on board. In the wake of the arrival of (new head coach) Dieter Hecking, this is the next important step taken by VfL. Ivan will give us even more options in the forward department. His profile is a perfect fit for the coach’s team concept
Perisic began his youth career with famed club Hadjuk Split, before signing with FC Sochaux at age 17. He played on their reserve team before being loaned to Belgian side Roeselare in 2009, where he scored five times in 18 matches. The 6’2″ attacker signed with Club Brugge in August 2009, and was named Belgian Player of the Year following his performance for Club Brugge in 2010/2011, when he led the Jupiler League with 22 goals. Signing with Borussia Dortmund on what was speculated to be a 5 million euro transfer fee in May, 2011, the Croatian totaled 12 goals and seven assists in 60 matches for BvB. It is believed that the transfer fee for Perisic, who has earned 17 caps for Croatia, is in the neighborhood of 8 million euros.
Perisic commented on his move to Wolfsburg and the club’s place in the Bundesliga table
I am massively happy that it’s worked out and I’m proud to have the opportunity to play for VfL Wolfsburg. I’m determined to give the club my all and hopefully we’ll be successful together over the coming years. 15th place in the table obviously isn’t very good. I hope to be able to contribute to helping us improve on that as soon as possible – and maybe we can make it through to the final of the DFB Cup as well (…) For that, to happen, we need to lay the foundations by preparing well here in Belek
In other Wolfsburg transfer news, the club has loaned South Korean Park Jung-Bin to Greuther Fürth through June, 2014, with an option to buy. The striker/left winger had been promoted to Wolfsburg’s reserve team after playing with the U-19s.
Subotic and Bender commit their future to Dortmund
On the same day that Sven Bender was linked with a move to Manchester United, the 23-year-old extended another year, to his previous long term contract signed back in 2010 that kept him at the club until 2016. Teammate and Serbian international Neven Subotic meanwhile extended until 2016. The deals follow contract extensions of other key players this year including Lukasz Piszczek, Mario Götze and Jakub Blaszczykovski and Mats Hummels.
With Dortmund making waves in Europe this season and having won back to back titles interest in the team’s players has been growing and growing in the last year so extending the contracts of key players was a necessary move by Dortmund’s management and sporting director Michael Zorc is delighted with the deals,
We’re delighted to have been able to tie down two key members of our championship-winning team in the long term.
Djourou joins Hannover, Advincula to Hoffenheim and Genter extends with Stuttgart
In other news, Arsenal and Switzerland center-back Johan Djourou joined Mirko Slomka’s Hannover on loan through the rest of the season and joined the team in their training camp in Portugal following his medical on Saturday. The Swiss international, 25, has found little playing time at Arsenal this season but has made 144 appearances for the Gunners since 2004, and turned out 13 times while on loan to Birmingham City in 2007/2008. Djourou strengthens an area of the pitch Slomka was adamant in wanting to improve, particularily in light of the injuries suffered by 96ers Leon Andreasen and Felipe.
Hoffenheim have signed 22 year-old Peruvian midfielder/defender Luis Advincula to a contract through June, 2016 with the transfer fee undisclosed. Avincula comes from Peruvian first division side Sporting Cristal. The right-sided player, who can play on the backline or in midfield, appeared almost 90 times for Sporting Cristal after beginning his professional career with Peru’s Juan Aurich He has played on Peruvian club championship team at Sporting and also was part of Peru’s 2011 Copa America squad which finished third in that tournament. Advincula has earned 20 caps for Peru.
Stuttgart meanwhile extended the contract of veteran Christian Gentner.
