Intro: Borussia Dortmund reintroduced themselves in a perfect manner. BVB won 6:0 against Legia Warsaw and found a wonderful start in this years Champions League campaign. Thomas Tuchel, always a coach of surprises, changed the line-up on three position — Sebastian Rode, André Schürrle and Gonzalo Castro were at home or on the bench. Ousmane Dembele, Raphael Guerreiro and American Christian Pulisic earned their chance to show themselves. The story of the match is easy: Borussia Dortmund was – in every single detail – too good for Legia Warsaw.
Augenblick: Former FC-Bayern-Keeper Oliver Kahn, who works as a TV-Expert, just said it. “If Mario Götze is allowed to score with a header, you have to fire the whole defense.” Götze scored the lead after a cross of Frenchman Ousmane Dembele. Most important thing was not only the good attacking of BVB it was the fact that Götze is smiling again. The reactions on Facebook, twitter and in new media were clear – the jung had fun again.
Man of the Match: Mario Götze was not the man of the match though. The Portuguese midfielder Raphael Guerreiro was. He came as a left fullback to Dortmund. But Tuchel has discovered his talent for offensive actions. Guerreiro was part of almost every dangerous attack. He prepared the 2:0 goal of “Papa” Sokratis with a free-kick-cross and scored the 4:0 goal by himself. You have to thank Michael Zorc and the scouting team. The young lad came to Dortmund for about 9m Euros. It was before the EURO 2016 where he always started in Portuguese line-up. Without ever having one appearance for BVB, he improved his market value. And his development has not come to an end yet. Guerreiro – almost every important newspaper in Germany agrees – was the man of the match and it probably will not be his last outstanding appearance for Borussia Dortmund.
Key stat(s): Borussia Dortmund just had eight attempts on goal and scored six goals. Almost perfect.
Talking points: Mario Götze: He is back. Not only back in Dortmund, but back in shape. He was one of the better players against Leipzig and continued that level of performance Wednesday. Together with Guerreiro, Götze demonstrated the BVB superiority in midfield. He scored one goal and was one of the main reasons that BVB-attacks had such creativity.
Raphael Guerreiro: Man of the match. He scored and assisted a goal. His talent is omnipresent. He was the man for the free kicks and seemed to enjoy the cooperation with Götze. It was the first match in BVB line-up and his artful play reminds one of Philipp Lahm, which is definitely a compliment.
First half 0:3 – Second half 0:3: “It is very important always to be greedy.” This is a Jurgen Klopp quote, but it is timeless. Dortmund demonstrated from minute 01 until minute 90 that they wanted this three points more than Warsaw. It is fantastic that the velocity never decreased.
A demonstration: Real Madrid just won 2:1 against Sporting Lisbon. Of course the Portuguese club is much more dangerous than Legia. Nevertheless the six goals scored by Borussia Dortmund are a fine salute to the competitors in this group.
Legia-Fans: Borussia Dortmund published a warning before the match. Legia-Hooligans are among the most dangerous fans in the world. Their reputation is very bad. The police advised BVB-Fans not to show themselves in public. In first half some Hooligans tried to get into the BVB-section of the stand. They even were armed with tear gas. On the other hand many other Legia-Fans created a fantastic atmosphere and showed a great choreography.
