A phantom goal hasn’t been scored in the Bundesliga since Thomas Helmer for Bayern in their match against Der Club back on April 23rd 1994. Here some other developments from this weekend’s 9 Bundesliga worth knowing.
TSG 1899 Hoffenheim vs. Bayer 04 Leverkusen
Bernd Leno has kept out two of three penalties he has had to face this season. This was also Roberto Firmino’s first penalty miss in the Bundesliga.
Kiessling’s phantom goal is officially his fourth goal coming from a header. No other player in the Bundesliga has scored as many from headers.
This was Hoffe’s first loss at home in the 2013/14.
Leverkusen has never had 7 wins from their first 9 matches prior to this season.
Markus Gisdol’s team has only taken 2 out of possible 12 points in their last four matches.
Hoffenheim dominated this game, firing off 20 shots(Leverkusen had only 12) and winning 52% of the duels on the pitch.
Borussia Dortmund vs. Hannover 96
Marco Reus has scored 27 goals in the Bundesliga since arriving from at Dortmund. 15 of those goals gave Dortmund a 1-0 lead.
Dortmund has won every single match at home in all three competitions.
Hannover are still waiting for the first goal on the road this season.
Artur Sobiech was far more active than his countryman Robert Lewandowski’s. Hannover’s striker had the most shots out of all players on the pitch(4), whilst Lewandowski had the fewest touches of all Dortmund players(42) and only 1 shot.
Dortmund have been awarded four penalties this season. They haven’t gotten as many in their first nine matches of a season since 1994/95.
Ron Robert Zieler has faced 9 penalties in the Bundesliga: Eight of them were converted, whilst 1 hit the bar.
Hannover put in a lot of effort at the Signal Iduna Park: Slomka’s team ran 121.7 kilometres, but managed only to create three shots in the first half of the match(which is a season low). However, the second half saw Hannover create 7 shots.
FC Bayern München vs. 1. FSV Mainz 05
Mario Mandzukic has scored in his last 3 appearances against Wolfsburg(four goals in total).
Bayern have won all of their 13 matches at home. The Bavarians are the only team which hasn’t dropped any points at home in 2013.
Mainz are the only team which has lost three of its matches after taking a 1-0 lead.
Philipp Lahm had 148 touches, which is a new personal best for the right back and makeshift midfielder and the highest amount of touches recorded within a match by a player so far this season.
A match of two halves: Bayern didn’t place a single shot on target in the first and misplaced 21% of their passes. After the break Bayern’s pass completion went up to 89% and 4 of the 6 shots they placed on target went into the back of the net.
SV Werder Bremen vs. SC Freiburg
Bremen haven’t been involved in a goalless draw since January 2012. However, the Green and Whites are now unbeaten in their last 4 matches. Werder haven’t been able to put together such a run since early 2012.
This was the first goalless draw of the season and the 999th goalless draw in the Bundesliga’s history.
Werder misplaced a staggering 37% of their passes in the second half.
This was Freiburg’s first clean sheet of the season.
Werder have only won 1 of their last 11 home matches.
4 of Freiburg’s 11 attempts came in the last 10 minutes of the match.
Eintracht Braunschweig vs. Schalke 04
Both Max Meyer and Leon Goretzka got on the score sheet against the Lions, yet the two of them are only 18-years-old. However, Stuttgart’s Timo Werner is still the youngest goalscorer of the 2013/14 season.
Leon Goretzka’s goal was the 250th goal of the current Bundesliga season.
Braunschweig’s last win at home came in the Bundesliga 2 on March 28th against Dynamo Dresden(a 2-1 win).
Both teams created 14 shots and a draw might have been a fairer result on balance.
Orhan Ademi’s 1-0 goal was also his first shot in 6 Bundesliga appearances.
Roman Neustädter’s 3-2 winner was his first goal since November 10th 2012. Back then he scored in Gladbach’s 2-1 win over Werder Bremen.
Schalke’s starting line up had an average age of 24.2 years. This is their youngest starting line up since May 2012.
Karim Bellarabi has scored 1 goal in 18 matches for Leverkusen. After moving to Braunschweig he has scored 2 goals in 7 matches.
Eintracht Frankfurt vs. 1. FC Nürnberg
Der Club has now drawn 6 of their 9 matches. None of the other 17 Bundesliga teams have drawn a match as many times.
Frankfurt took their foot of the gas after going 1-0 in front, only creating 3 shots for the rest of the match. Nürnberg on the other hand side kicked into gear and created 9 shots after falling behind.
Hiroshi Kiyotake fired off Nürnberg’s first and only shot in the first half after 38 minutes.
This was the 15th time that Nürnberg managed to avoid a defeat to Frankfurt on the road(6 wins and 9 draws). They haven’t been that successful on the road against any other team in the Bundesliga.
This was Frankfurt’s fourth draw in a row. Frankfurt took a 1-0 lead in all of those 4 matches.
Nürnberg won 60% of their duels in the second half. In the first Der Club only won 41% of their duels.
Hertha BSC vs. Borussia Mönchengladbach
The Old Lady have won 4 of their 5 home matches so far this season. The team from Germany’s capital are also undefeated in their last 4 matches, taking 8 out of a possible 12 points.
The Foals on the other hand side have only taken 1 out of a possible 15 points on the road.
Gladbach were undefeated in their last 9 matches against newly promoted teams before going into this match.
Per Ciljan Skjellbred has assisted 3 goals in his 5 matches for Hertha. He didn’t have any assists in his 26 matches for HSV.
Hertha managed only to create 5 shots against Gladbach. Jos Luhukay’s team have managed to create more shots in all of their 8 previous Bundesliga matches.
Martin Stranzl was sent off for the 7th time in his career. Only former Karlsruher SC and Bayer 04 Leverkusen player Jens Nowotny(8 times) has been sent off for an early more often than the Austrian.
Hamburger SV vs. VfB Stuttgart
Both Thomas Schneider and Bert van Marwijk are still unbeaten.
Pierre-Michel Lasogga has started four matches for HSV(1 in the cup and 3 in the Bundesliga) scoring 5 times in those matches.
6 of Alexandru Maxim free kicks have been converted into goals. No other player in the Bundesliga is as dangerous from set pieces as the Romanian.
HSV have only won 2 of their last 10 matches in the Imtech Arena
Maximilian Beister’s equalizer was his first goal in the Bundesliga after coming off the bench. This was the 19th time that he has been subbed onto the pitch.
Rafael van der Vaart has scored five goals from 9 appearances this season. Last season he scored as many goals in all of his 27 Bundesliga matches.
Antonio Rüdiger was sent off late in the game. This was his second red card in 21 Bundesliga matches for Stuttgart. The talented defender has also been sent off 2 times in 25 appearances for VfB Stuttgart II.
FC Augsburg vs. VfL Wolfsburg
Augsburg have only take 1 point out of their last four matches. Wolfsburg on the other hand side celebrated their first win on the road this season.
This was Wolfsburg first away win since their 3-0 thumping of Werder Bremen back on April 20th 2013.
Sascha Mölders won only 10% of his duels and didn’t create or take a single shot during the entire match.
Augsburg created 7 shots in the first 15 minutes and only four in the last 75 minutes of the match.
Luiz Gustavo 2-1 goal was Wolfsburg’s first goal from a header this season.
Wolfsburg two first shots during the match were converted into goals.
