The 51st Bundesliga season kicks off on Friday August 9, as treble winners Bayern Munich host Borussia Mönchengladbach at the Allianz Arena, the match in which new Bayern coach Pep Guardiola makes his German coaching debut. Newly promoted Hertha Berlin and Eintracht Braunschweig both make their 2013/2014 season debuts at home, with Hertha hosting Eintracht Frankfurt and the club from Brunswick playing host to Werder Bremen, where Robin Dutt debuts in place of long-time Werder coach Thomas Schaaf. Champions League finalists Bayern and Borussia Dortmund square off on the weekend of November 22 when the runnerups host the champions. The Hinrunde ends on December 22, with the second half of the season resuming on the weekend of January 24, 2014.
The Bundesliga regular season will be preceded by the DFL SuperCup on Saturday, July 27 and the first round of the DFB Pokal tournament on August 5.
The competition in the 2. Bundesliga begins on the weekend of July 22. Newly promoted clubs Arminia Bielefeld and Karlsruher SC both start the season away from home, as Bielefeld travels to Furth and Karlsruhe open up at FSV Frankfurt. Demoted SV Sandhausen, who received a reprieve due to the licensing problems at MSV Duisburg, begin another year in the second division at home, hosting VfR Aalen. The return of 2. Bundesliga action after the winter break will occur on the weekend of February 10, 2014.
