Coach Joachim Low is giving four young players their first opportunities to represent Germany Wednesday in the semior national team’s international friendly against Sweden.  FSV Mainz midfielders Lewis Holtby and Adam Schurrle will be joined by Borussia Dortmund’s midfielder Mario Gotze and defender Marcel Schmelzer in getting their first German national team call-ups.  Holtby, whose father is English and was eligible to play for England, has chosen to cast his lot with Germany.  The game will be played in Goteberg, Sweden and will be available for viewing on the ESPN 3 live stream at 2:30 pm ET Wednesday afternoon.  All four youngsters are said to be likely to play in the contest.

  1. Let’s not forget Mats Hummels who is finally getting his chance after being ignored for so long. At last a defender to fit the system!
