There may only have been a handful of surprises in the opening round of the DFB Pokal but 3rd tier Magdeburg knocked out Bundesliga outfit Augsburg thanks to two late goals and they’ve been rewarded with a home tie against Peter Bosz’s Borussia Dortmund. Can they eliminate the top flight giants and reigning champions?

Dortmund started the season in style under the former Ajax boss with a convincing 3-0 victory in Wolfsburg. Despite the home side’s troubles last season, travelling to the Volkswagen Arena is never easy but strikes from Marc Bartra and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang made it a very comfortable 90 minutes.
It’s the second successive clean sheet for Bosz’s men this campaign after they sailed through the first round of the DFB Pokal, thumping Rielasingen-Arlen 4-0. Travelling to face Magdeburg will be much tougher, however. The 3rd tier side started their season at the end of July and, despite slipping up in their opening encounter, they’ve since won five consecutive matches in all competitions and conceded just a single goal in the process. Dortmund are looking to retain their title after seeing off Eintracht Frankfurt in the final of the competition in May.
The other Bundesliga conquerors Osnabruck have been handed a perfectly winnable tie against 2nd tier side 1.FC Nürnberg.
The most eye-catching tie of the round surely has to be Bayern Munich’s trip to face RB Leipzig. Something has to give when last season’s top two meet at the end of October. There were 12 goals during the two meetings between these sides last season including a thrilling 5-4 victory for the champions here in May with two late goals clinching the three points. Leipzig eventually finished 15 points behind the Bundesliga giants but have qualified for Europe as a result of their achievements. The two sides meet in the league later that week when they are set to do battle at the Allianz Arena on the weekend commencing 27th October.

Bayern Munich have been priced up as favourites for the competition despite their seemingly tough looking second round draw. They are priced at 2.60 to win the DFB Pokal by online Bitcoin sportsbook Sportsbet.io and you can try it now if you’re looking to place a bet on the tournament and back Carlo Ancelotti’s men for success.
Other all-Bundesliga ties include Hertha Berlin taking on defensively sound FC Köln whilst Werder Bremen and Hoffenheim meet again following their opening day clash which resulted in Julian Nagelsmann’s side emerging as narrow 1-0 winners.
Bayer Leverkusen, who required extra time to sneak through the previous round against Karlsruhe, are rewarded with a home tie against Union Berlin. Fortuna Düsseldorf host Borussia Monchengladbach whilst Paderborn, who knocked out St Pauli on home soil are rewarded with a second successive home draw against poor-travellers Bochum. Bundesliga 2 newcomers Holsten Kiel face a tough looking trip to Bundesliga side Mainz 05, but the visitors are scoring goals and could cause plenty of problems for the top flight side.
It’s set to be a terrific few days of DFB Pokal action as Borussia Dortmund aim to defend their title against Magdeburg. All eyes will surely be on the Red Bull Arena as last season’s top two do battle and the possibility of another nine goal thriller awaits.
