Bayer Leverkusen Encounter Rain Saturday in Florida

Bayer 04 Leverkusen had to endure rain during a morning practice Saturday at the fields near the Omni International Resort headquarters in Orlando, Florida.  Die Werkself kick off their winter break friendly schedule Sunday at Tampa’s Al Lang Stadium against Argentine side Estudiantes de la Plata.  (Kickoff is at 2:00 pm as the first match of a doubleheader that includes a nightcap between the USL’s Tampa Bay Rowdies and the VfL Wolfsburg youngsters beginning at 4:45 pm ET.  Both matches will be streamed in the US on Fox Soccer 2 Go).

Despite the rain, the Leverkusen squad completed a successful practice with drills followed by a scrimmage, with the opportunity for selfies and autographs afterwards.  Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez is once again the focus of attention in Florida, but other Werkself stars including Kevin Kampl, Hakan Calhonoglu, Jonathan Tah, Bernd Leno and Charles Aranguiz were also popular with the fans who shrugged off the wet weather to see their guys.

As always, the Werkself players were gracious with their time despite the long walk back to their hotel in the rain.
