Time is running out for the Bundesliga clubs if they wish to sign or offload any players before the transfer window closes with Monday’s 18:00 deadline approaching. In recent days Michael Lang has joined Werder Bremen from Gladbach, while Schalke have signed Barcelona B defender Miranda on a two-year loan. There are still plenty of deals being done and rumours doing the rounds. So just who could be going where?
Jan Vertonghen (Tottenham to Bayer Leverkusen)
With Dejan Lovren looking like he will be staying at Liverpool, Bayer Leverkusen have reportedly turned their attention to another Premier League centre back in the form of Jan Vertonghen.
The 32-year-old Belgian has a contract with Tottenham until 2020, but a lack of game time with last season’s Champions League finalists has left him eyeing a move. The Werkself have made no secret about being interested in signing another defender and would prefer him to be left-footed and versatile (Vertonghen is both).
He has been capped 114 times by Belgium and is seen as a more viable target than either Lovren of SC Freiburg’s Dominique Heintz.
Luan (Gremio to Eintracht Frankfurt)
Having clinched the signing of Dutch striker Bast Dost this week, Eintracht Frankfurt could be looking to spend a bit more of their Luka Jovic/ Sebastian Haller windfall on another attacking option.
According to Globo Esporte, the Adler are interested in signing attacking player Luan from Brazilian side Gremio of Porto Alegre. The 26-year-old will be a familiar name to anyone who has played the Football Manager game, but his talent and potential go beyond the virtual world.
Capped twice by Brazil, he can play behind the main striker(s) and is also adept at playing in a wider role. He would be an ideal back-up/ replacement for Ante Rebic, whose own future at the Commerzbank Arena is still unclear. Luan would set Eintracht back around €15 million.
André Ayew (Swansea City to Schalke)
The Königsblauen’s need to improve their attack has been sharply highlighted by their failure to score in either of their matches so far this season. Ghanaian international Ayew is available having spent last season on loan at Fenerbahce from English Championship side Swansea and Schalke are reportedly looking at a move for the ex-West Ham and Marseille striker.
The Swans would like to shift him from the club’s wage bill, and it is reported that Sampdoria and Lazio are both tracking him. Ayew scored five goals in 38 games last season in Turkey.
Schalke have also been linked with Milan’s Andre Silva and Czech striker Patrik Schick from Roma.
Amin Younes (Napoli to Werder Bremen)
With manager Frank Baumann seemingly ruling out Nabil Bentaleb leaving Schalke for Werder, the Grün-Weißen are now being linked with a move for Napoli’s Amin Younes.
The 26-year-old was a member of the 2017 German Confederations Cup-winning team and was seen as a real talent. His star waned at Ajax when he got himself suspended for refusing to go on as a substitute in one game. He was old to Napoli, but he has struggled to cement a first-team place making just 12 appearances last season. This season has seen him not even making the matchday squad.
Werder do have Milot Rashica as their first choice on the left of attack, but he is currently out with an adductor injury. It is understood that Werder are proposing a season-long loan.
