Bayern Munich will be hoping to keep pressure on Borussia Dortmund by taking all three points when die Roten face VFB Stuttgart on Sunday.
Bayern cruised comfortably to a 3-0 win in the pair’s last meeting. The Bavarians are unbeaten in their nine games since a 3-2 loss to Borussia Dortmund.
Despite 19 goals from Robert Lewandowski, the team has been short on goal production. Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben the next-highest scorers with five each.
Niko Kovac can find hope in the form of midfielder Leon Goretzka who scored twice last weekend, nicely capping a run in which he seemed to settle into his role while started ten consecutive games. It has been somewhat of a purple patch for the former FC Schalke man.
Meanwhile, VFB Stuttgart are on the opposite end of the spectrum, sitting 16th and trying to escape the relegation places, which is a stark contrast to last season’s high-flying seventh-place finish.
Despite having the likes of World Cup winner Benjamin Pavard – who is set to join Bayern when the season’s end – the club’s back end have let in 38 goals this season, the division’s worst.
Up front it is a similar story.
Despite having former Bayern Munich and Wolfsburg striker Mario Gomez at their disposal, no player at the club has over five goals this term. With two defeats from their last two matches, Stuttgart enter this game in poor form.
However, with wins over Nürnberg and Augsburg, manager Markus Weinzierl’s squad is one that Bayern should not underestimate.
