Leon Bailey has become one of the star players at Bayer Leverkusen this season. Already the young winger who can play on either side has ten goals and four assists to his name in the Bundesliga. The German club are going to find it hard keeping hold of him when the transfer window opens up. There are a number of top clubs wanting his signature which is going to make it very hard for Leverkusen to hold onto him.
There are going to be some dramatic changes at The Emirates over the next two transfer windows as it looks like both of their star players will be able to leave on free transfers during the summer transfer window. They may even look to cash in during the January transfer window and not lose million due to their contracts running out and them being able to leave on a free. How they got into this mess in the first place is staggering as none of the other team teams in Europe would allow this situation to arise.
One of the players they are hoping to sign to replace the void that will probably be left by both Meszut Özil and Alexis Sanchez is Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey. The player is still only twenty years old and if he fulfills his potential he could be worth a fortune in the future, not that it will matter at the Gunners as they will allow him to run his contract down so he can move on a free like everyone else.
Bailey is from Jamaica and has made a name for himself this campaign in the Bundesliga. His team Bayer Leverkusen are fighting a top-four finish and they are on track thanks to the assists along with goals from Bailey. He arrived back in January from Belgian club Genk for £12 million and he looks like he has been a bargain.
Bayer Leverkusen will not want to lose the rising star but with Arsenal desperate for new players they will pull out all the stops to get their man. It is reported that the Gunner want to pay £15 million during the January window to sign him but I think the fee will have to rise a lot more if they are going to be able to secure his signature. London rivals Chelsea are also interested in the winger with a view to him eventually replacing the outgoing William who has a good season so far.
With so many clubs monitoring the player all across Europe, it is not going to be easy for Arsenal to convince the player to join them. The Gunners failed to qualify for the Champions League last season for the first time since he joined the club. With both Özil and Sanchez leaving it is going to be very difficult for them to catch up to the teams above them as they are an extremely difficult pair to find equal replacements for. Bailey will have to step up his game even further if he is going to fill the void left behind at the Emirates. It is going to be a lot of pressure for a twenty-year-old to deal with and it will either make him or break him as a player. He definitely has all the potential to be one of the best wingers in the world but like we have seen from many young players sometimes the big move comes too early in their career. If he does sign for the Gunners, hopefully, they will remember this time to extend his contract when he is playing well and not run it down so they get zero when he leaves.
