Playing Style

Konrad Laimer is a box-to-box midfielder that presses incredibly well and showcases intelligent positioning. He idolizes Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, but has the characteristics to be a natural replacement for Naby Keita. If Keita stays, Laimer is likely going to serve as depth in the beginning backing up Keita for Leipzig’s upcoming season that sees the side battling in the Champions League and the Bundesliga.

What Does This Transfer Mean to RB Leipzig?

The rumors of Naby Keïta are differing not just every other day, but during the same day. On June 30th, Bleacher Report reported that Naby Keïta has an agreement in principle with Liverpool. Also on June 30th, ESPN FC reported that Liverpool had not yet made an approach to Keïta. A crucial goal to maintaining the Bundesliga success for Leipzig with the added stress of a UEFA campaign will be holding on to star players, such as Keïta. The other goal is to add some depth to make sure the star men do not get exhausted. Laimer’s transfer in is a good start to adding the depth. However, this transfer could also be a sign that RB Leipzig are preparing for the exit of a midfielder.

The question will remain throughout the summer, is Konrad Laimer a replacement or just a reinforcement for Die Roten Bullen?
