Finally, the Premier League Seems Aubameyang’s Likely Home Next Season

For a couple seasons now, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been rumored to be joining a long list of Dortmund stars who’ve left for richer clubs. And as the transfer rumor dust settles, it seems most likely that an English Premier club will be Aubameyang’s home by the time next season arrives.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is a Gabonese international with French roots. His footballing career started at AC Milan, but he spent most of his tenure loaned out to four French clubs. Finally, in 2011 “Auba” settled in France with Saint-Étienne. After winning the 2013 Coupe de la Ligue Final, German giants Borussia Dortmund called and Aubameyang transferred. His tenure with Dortmund has been a great success. In 2013 and 2014, Dortmund won the DFL Supercup along with a DFB-Pokal title this past season. Aubameyang also has achieved great international success, being awarded the CAF’s African Footballer of the Year title in 2015. Finally, the striker won the Torjägerkanone this past season, which is given to the Bundesliga’s top goal scorer each season. The 28-year-old is extremely talented and versatile in terms of where he can play, being capable of slotting in on either wing or as a centre forward. Aubameyang achieved a true breakout season this past year, in a total of 46 appearance in all competitions for Dortmund, and managed to collect 40 goals; which is nearly a goal per game. His goal per game rate demonstrates his ability as one of Europe’s most prolific strikers. However, being 28, he isn’t getting any younger. The vast majority of strikers begin their decline around this age, so if Aubameyang wants a high caliber move, the time is now.

So who seems to be interested in him?

Being successful comes with attention, therefore, it is no surprise that he has generated a interest from some of the usual suspects like Liverpool, Manchester UnitedArsenalManchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, and even Chinese Super League club Tianjin Quanjin. A Premier League move would generate a ton of attention and truly put the world’s eyes on the striker. However, a move to PSG will allow him to play out the end of his career in the nation he has spent a large majority of his life in. A move to China, however, will be the big money move; for example, look no further than Carlos Tevez to see that Aubameyang will cash in a very large paycheck if he moves East. If the move is purely about the money, China will likely be the new home of the Dortmund star. When it comes to wages, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has spent his Dortmund tenure as second fiddle to Marco Reus, so he may be interested in being the top dog at a club.

Yet in the latest development, according to exclusive insight from one of the pundits over at, it seems that Liverpool and former Dortmund manager Jürgen Klopp are in the pole position with their latest bid of €70 million for the Gabonese forward. However, there is fierce competition coming from free-spending Manchester City, who are determined to win the Premier League at any cost. Of course, it seems logical that the striker would favour rejoining Klopp, but with the kind of serious money that will be offered to this player, Liverpool may be hesitant to pull the trigger ultimately. But what about the sellers? In other Borussia Dortmund-related rumors — who, as usual,  seems to be under constant pressure in trying to hold on to its players — Matthias Ginter is attracting attention from Tottenham, Hoffenheim, and Arsenal. The centre back is currently valued at £15 million, so he is well within the reach of any club who aims to reinforce its back line.

In the past, Dortmund has attracted some criticism of being a “selling club” with no interest in winning or truly competing for trophies and titles. However, this summer appears to be different. We have noticed a few signings which prove that they are adding quality in weaker spots, such as forward Maximilian Philipp from SC Freiburg for £17 million, veteran defender Ömer Toprak signed from Bayer Leverkusen, midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud signed from ‘Gladbach, and the young prospect Dan-Axel Zagadou signed from PSG. Whatever the outcome regarding Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, punter Peter Hall informs us that is anticipating a busy and exciting summer transfer period, followed by yet another exciting year of football.

  1. I don’t believe for a minute that Auba will go to the EPL. He’s stated his love for Real Madrid or nothing. He would be just another cog in the machine at Man City, etc instead of the focal point as he is at BVB.
