A name to note: Christian Früchtl – Bayern’s 15 year-old goalkeeping sensation

So who just is he? The youngster has been asked to join up with Pep Guardiola’s side ahead of the their winter pre-training regime in Doha, Qatar.

Born on Janurary 28th 2000 in Bischofsmais, the teen sensation is one of the hottest prospects in German football. He is currently part of the Bayern Munich under 16 side managed by Wolfgang Dremmler. At 6ft 2 and with a shoe size of 16, he has the physical demands to withstand the rigours of Bundesliga football.

The athletic goalkeeper was brought to the Bavarian giants having made the move from SpVgg Grün-WeiB Deggendorf in 2014. Having only made four appearances this season for both club and the German under 16 side – this was enough to persuade 44-year old manager Guardiola to include the youngster in his 29-man travelling squad. Many fans stated it was a “surprise” to see the teen who turns 16 later this month included.

The youngster’s incredible attributes of commanding, penalty saving and shot stopping have been noted by Bayern Munich’s sporting director Matthias Sammer who was quoted stating: “His attributes are incredible. When you’ve got the very best in the world [Neuer] at your side, we all know that this role model will always have an effect. Indeed, one thought is that he can look at Manu closely.”

Sammer said that the decision to include youngsters in the squad was “a signal” that “in spite of the competition in our squad, we try to spot talent and create opportunities for them to show it.”

It seems the starlet, who wear the number 36 is the one to watch and will follow be looking to follow in the footsteps of fellow countryman Neuer who was quoted saying about the youngster: “He is one and a half heads taller than I was at that age. He has a very good stature, trying very much to learn at that age. We relate it regardless of age normally and he is a permanent member of the keeper circuit and it is fun to train with him.”

It’s seems the Bundesliga has a rise of up and coming keepers, with Timo Wellenreuther, a 19-year old keeper currently on-loan at Real Mallorca from Schalke 04 (Neuer’s former club) and dubbed the ‘new Manuel Neuer’, also one to watch.
