German website Fussball-Geld.de, a blog concerned about all financial matters within German football, has taken a closer look at how Germany’s national team players are getting paid for their efforts by the DFB. The blog states that all players are guaranteed 20,000 Euros each time they are nominated during the qualifying campaign. Of the current squad, only six players were nominated for all ten qualifying matches: Jérôme Boateng, Mario Götze, Sebastian Rudy, Lukas Podolski, Christoph Kramer and Andre Schürrle. All ten players have been paid the maximum amount of 200,000€ by the German football association.
In its overview, Fussball-Geld also tells readers how many matches each player has played, how many minutes they played, and how much each player was paid per match and per minute on average. Unsurprisingly, it’s Ron-Robert Zieler who has managed to get the most amount of money for the least amount of work on the pitch. The Hannover keeper didn’t compete at all for Germany, but was part of the squad a total of eight times, which means that he was paid 160,000€ for no appearances.
The most-effective outfield player was Valencia’s Shkodran Mustafi, who was nominated a total of nine times, playing just 90 minutes total, while earning him 180,000€, which comes out to 2,000€ for each minute he spent on the pitch.
Fussball-Geld has kindly permitted us to share their graphic on our website, showing you all the payment details for all 36 players nominated to the national team during the qualifying campaign to reach the European championship next year in France.
