Gallery – Jupp Heynckes’ 1000th Bundesliga Game – Tribute to One of German Football’s Greatest Coaches

Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes will take part in his 1000th Bundesliga game on matchday 23. Heynckes played 369 matches as a Bundesliga player before moving into coaching in 1979.  631 matches later Heynckes is one of the most decorated and long lasting coaches in German football history. Only Otto Rehhagel has more Bundesliga matches under his belt (1033) than “Don Jupp” as he was called in Spain or “Osram” as many in Germany refer to him.

In honor of this great achievement (and possible retirement at the end of the season), we pay tribute to Heynckes’ illustrious career, from his humble beginnings in Mönchengladbach in 1963 to his Champions League final with Bayern last year.
