Transfers abound as the Bundesliga season inches closer to kickoff. Wolfsburg have made their seventh summer signing, while Eintracht Frankfurt look to improve their squad following promotion back to Germany’s top-tier. Fellow promoted club SpVgg Greuther Fürth have added a Danish international while MSV Duisburg have brought in a veteran striker. SC Freiburg, a club that experienced a fine turnaround last season when youth coach Christian Streich took over the reins of the senior squad, acquired a Spanish defender on loan. Werder Bremen meanwhile look to acquire a young Chelsea talent on loan for the season to help with their attack while Hamburg have lost another player from last season.
Wolfburg Sign Brazilian Fagner
Felix Magath has added another new face to the burgeoning Wolfsburg roster, bringing in 23 year-old defender Fagner from Brazilian side Vasco de Gama. Fagner had an earlier move to Europe with PSV Eindhoven in 2007/2008 that was largely unsuccessful He signed a four-year deal for the Volkswagen city club for an undisclosed fee and according to Magath, is a right back “whose attacking qualities we can well use.” Fagner also has experience in South America’s Copa de Libertadores.
In other Wolfsburg news, prodigal son Diego has already started camp on the wrong foot with Magath. The Brazilian midfielder had a successful season on loan at Atletico Madrid last year, but Wolfsburg have found no buyers for the talented midfielder, leaving the possibility that he may play with the Wolfsburg reserve team. Magath has demonstrated in the past that he has no problem demoting established Bundesliga players to the reserve squad when displeased, and has done so with Patrick Helmes and Mario Mandzukic at Wolfsburg as well as Jermaine Jones and others at Schalke. Diego did get a 10 minute runout, though, in Wolfsburg’s friendly 2-1 loss to Bayern München in China Thursday.

The 24 year-old Brazilian began his career with Flamengo, and was signed by Bayer Leverkusen four years ago. He previously played on loan with VfL Osnabruck as well as Fortuna Düsseldorf. Demidov, 25, is a Norwegian international. Born in Riga, the central defender comes to Frankfurt from Real Sociedad, where he signed in January, 2011. He has over 180 professional games under his belt, along with 15 caps for Norway, featuring frequently during Norway’s 2012 Euro qualifying campaign.

The 31 year-old spent the last seasons at Fortuna Düsseldorf, where he scored 17 goals in 77 matches, including four goals last season. Born in West Berlin, Jovanovic began his career with Tennis Borussia Berlin in 2001 and has also played for Dynamo Dresden, FSV Mainz 05 and Rot Weiss Ahlen. The tall striker has scored 56 goals in 270 German matches.
