News: Ottl Headed to Augsburg, Hoffenheim Sign Serbian Youth International

The latest transfer news involving the Bundesliga includes the move of veteran Andreas Ottl to FC Augsburg next season, while Hoffenheim have signed Serbian U-21 international Filip Malbašić to a four-year contract.  Werder Bremen’s signing of Dutch international and former HSV player Eljero Elia seems imminent, although some difficulties involving his contract with his current club, Juventus, have delayed the actual finalization of the deal.  Elia has already arrived at Werder Bremen’s preseason camp with the transfer currently unresolved.

Ottl Signs with FC Augsburg 

Andreas Ottl, 27, signed a two-year contract with FC Augsburg, arriving on a free transfer deal from relegated side Hertha Berlin.  The 6’1″ defensive midfielder has spent most of his career at his hometown club, FC Bayern München, before signing on a free transfer to Berlin last summer.

Ottl returns to Bavaria, bringing with him the experience of playing 135 Bundesliga matches and of being part of part of championship squads, along with the versatility to feature in several positions.  Last season he played in 26 matches with Hertha, helping the team get off to a positive start to the season before off the field problems caused the club to spin out of control and fall all the way to relegation.

Ottl joined the youth ranks at Bayern in 1996, and signed his first professional contract with the club in 2005. spending 15 years with the club (except for a half season loan spell with 1. FC Nurnberg in 2010) until leaving for Berlin.

As a native of Munich, I of course followed the development of FC Augsburg in recent years with great interest. It was impressive how the team performed most of the last season in the Bundesliga and managed to avoid relegation. Therefore, I am pleased to be part of this team and want to help ensure that we achieve our goals in the league for the upcoming season

Augsburg will open the 2012/2013 season under new coach Markus Weinzierl at home on August 25 against newly promoted Fortuna Düsseldorf.

Hoffenheim Add Serbian Filip Malbašić

Hoffenheim took another step in revamping their club, adding the 19 year-old Malbašić to their mix in attack.  The 5’11” attacker featured in 22 league games for Serbian SuperLiga club FK Rad Belgrade, scoring twice, and earned two appearances in European competition for the club.  Malbašić has made a combined total of 11 appearances for the Serbian U-19 and U-21 teams.
