The Bundesliga schedule for the upcoming season was announced today in Frankfurt by officials of the DFL. The season kicks off on Friday,August 24, with champions Borussia Dortmund hosting a new-look Werder Bremen. Fortuna Dusseldorf begin MatchDay 1 on the road at FC Augsburg, while the other promoted clubs, Eintracht Frankfurt and SpVgg Greuther Fürth, open up at home. Frankfurt will host Bayer 04 Leverkusen while Fürth will meet their Bavarian giants Bayern München. Runner-up Bayern and champion Dortmund meet on MatchDay 15.
The two Bundesliga powers will meet earlier, in the DFL SuperCup, on August 12 at the Allianz. The final round of the Hinrunde is on weekend of December 12, with the third round DFB Pokal scheduled for December 18-19. The second half of the season resumes following winter break on the weekend of January 18-20, 2013.
The 2. Bundesliga schedule was also released. The second tier kicks off three weeks earlier, on August 5-8. Two of the newly promoted clubs, SV Sandhausen and VfR Aalen, will matchup on the first weekend while SV Jahn Regensburg will open on the road against Erzgebirge Aue. Hertha Berlin open at home against 1860 München and the Billygoats of 1.FC Köln host SG Dynamo Dresden, while the other demoted side, 1.FC Kaiserslautern, start the season as visitors to Ingolstadt.
