The Paraguayan striker is joining Chinese side Guangzhou for a transfer fee of 12 million euros.
Lucas Barrios start to the season wasn’t good, the striker came back from the Copa de America injured and had to watch Lukas Lewandowski taking his place in the starting line up. The first rumors of Barrios wanting to leave the club aroused around the winter break. Back then Barrios was linked with a transfer to Fullham that never came to fruition.
Barrios has now signed a four year deal at Guangzhou, where he’ll earn 6.7 million euros per season according to Bild. Dortmund is going to receive 12 million euros for the striker they bought for 4.2 million euros from CSD Colo Colo in 2009 according to the same paper. Dortmund boss Joachim Watzke told the paper:
This is Lucas decision. He wanted to go on another adventure.
Barrios himself thanked fans, telling Bild.
I want to thank the fans for their fantastic support for the last three years. I’ll never forget my time here, and I’ll always hold the time I spent at the club in high regards.
During his time in Dortmund, Barrios managed to play 82 matches in the Bundesliga, scoring 39 goals and creating 12 assists.
