Fredi Bobic was rather upset about one of referee Gräfe’s decisions while Köln coach Solbakken managed to insult Schalke with a huge grin on his face.
Fredi Bobic was unhappy about Cristian Molinaro’s sending off: ”Football is a contact sport. We aren’t playing indoor Halma.” (Halma is a benign board game)
Bobic also had this to say about Gräfe’s refereeing, “I don’t like how he handled the match. Everyone has a bad day every once in a while but when you show a yellow card after every foul it leaves very little room left to play.”
Ståle Solbakken handled the transfer speculations surrounding Podolski with a smile, ”He could go to a better club than Schalke. I’m optimistic and I think that he’ll stay.”
Claudio Pizarro addressed the speculation surrounding him: ”The future is always unpredictable. But my head is still with the task at hand at Werder. I’ll do everything to assure that we’ll play a good season.”
Christian Tiffert had a bet with wonder goal scorer Sahan: ”Me and him bet that he wouldn’t score before the winter break because he hadn’t scored too many goals, or any to be more precise. I even included the Cup, I’m that nice of a guy. However, he managed to score in the end, and therefore I gladly bleed.”
Captain Tiffert also stated that “Other teams don’t have the guts to play here (Signal Iduna Park). I’m simply proud of this team.”
Huub Stevens told the press after the match that Podolski wasn’t a candidate while Horst Heldt said: ”I don’t think that it isn’t a shame to think about a national team player as the second biggest club in Germany.” Oh dear…
Marc-Andre ter Stegen told it like it is: ”It’s crap that we didn’t manage to win this match. We didn’t find any solutions throughout the entire game.”
Mainz had the better chances against Hamburg, but Christian Wetklo couldn’t enjoy that: ”It is difficult as a keeper to see what happens upfront.”
And we leave the best for last as fireworks sparked between Dortmund coach Jürgen Klopp and Köln’s Lukas Podolski.
When asked about a potential Podolski transfer, Klopp had this to say, “Lukas is an exceptional player but I think he is so hyped in Köln that it is difficult to put in good performances on a regular basis. With his potential, he should be one of the best, if not the best striker in the league and that he is not. That is why he would be too expensive for us for just a couple week’s worth of good performances.”
Responding to Klopp’s comments, Podolski said, “Thoes are lovely comments from Mr. Klopp, maybe he is a little sad because I turned him down twice already. On the other hand, he is right, because I am too expensive for Dortmund after they missed out on the Champions League revenue having finished last in their group.”
