The end of a temporary rescue mission

Californian born Joe Enochs has ended his temporary rescue mission of the VfL Osnabrück. The club from Lower Saxony has still a long way to go to avoid relegation.

Enochs was thrown into the cold water after Osnbrück coach Karsten Baumann, and his co-trainer Heiko Nowak, were fired after a series of dire results. Enochs sat on the bench for the first time during the 2-2 encounter against Karslruher SC last week.

In today’s match Osnabrück needed all three points to move out of sight of cellar dweller Oberhausen, and to get closer to Ingolstadt and Karlsruhe. However, Enochs had to witness how his beloved Osnabrück side tossed away a number of good opportunities in today’s match against rock bottom side Arminia Bielefeld. This draw means that Oberhausen can go past Osnabrück in the table if they win their game this weekend.

Barman turned coach
Enochs has played 376 matches for Osnabrück after he moved from the US to Germany. After marrying the sister of his former teammate Lars Schiersand, Enochs made a life for himself in Germany after his playing career. He and his family continued to live in Osnabrück after Enochs’s playing days. Enochs has run a sports bar, called “Joe Enochs-Sportsbar” in Osnabrück after he finished his career as a professional.

Since Enochs doesn’t have a coaching license Friday’s match against  Bielefeld has been his last match in charge of Osnabrück.

According to a sport1.de interview Enochs doesn’t know what will happen in the future, but he is prepared to stick with his club, in any function that is available.

  1. Ha! I asked and you guys delivered. Good work. Is the bar still open do you know? If he’s unsure what happens in his coaching career, I hope it is. Kids have to eat.
